Artist's Statement

My interest in expressing myself through painting started over 30 years ago and although I started as an oil painter, I soon found my true calling as a watercolor and mixed media artist. I am known by my fresh and bright colors and have developed a free flowing and fun style over the years. My works range from my love for animals and nature to the more emotional side of my personality, abstraction and the non-objective. Although I am well known for painting captivating cats, I enjoy painting rabbits, monkeys, birds, giraffes, and almost any other critter on the planet. Each animal is painted with a full blown personality and character to boot!

My landscapes are loaded with color, feeling and spontaneity. They can range from desert scenes to oceans to forests and I often enjoy painting historical buildings & restaurants in the El Paso and surrounding area. My emotional and spiritual works are my abstracts and they develop from a much deeper and personal level. I'm always seeking out what I have never put on paper before and would love to, eventually, paint every animal and idea (spiritual and otherwise) that I have in my mind and subconscious. I am convinced that this will happen. All I need is time and space.

My paintings can be seen each month in the El Paso Scene magazine and I have been on its cover magazine 4 times in the past few years as well as in other magazines, on calendars and note cards throughout the Southwest. My collections can be found throughout the United States, Canada and the Caribbean. The First Lady Laura Bush owns a print of a local venue entitled "H & H Car Wash".

Included within my artistic life, I am a certified yoga instructor, meditator, master gardener, clothing designer and actress. For more details, please check out my web site: www.olchefski.com.
