Artist's Bio
Maria Cristina’s artwork is frequently described as witty, humorous, and heartwarming by a local following that is rapidly expanding beyond Las Cruces.
A lifelong sketch artist, she is best known for her free hand drawings in MS Word™, an unusual medium for digital artists. Self-taught, Maria Cristina uses a mouse to create her images, relying only on the simple tools offered by MS Word™ and occasionally MS Paint™. A drawing may take many hours to create and may evolve over the years. Her artwork is produced one at a time, in her own home studio, using archival quality paper and dyes to ensure fine and enduring quality.
Her formal schooling began in a convent school run by German nuns in the Philippines and ended with a doctorate in Education from the University of Washington. That diverse education combined with wide and varied travels, encounters with diverse cultures, a deep religious faith, and a vivid imagination provide an endless and varied source of inspiration for her works.
Maria Cristina maintains a studio inside the Old Tortilla Factory in Historic Mesilla, NM. She also sells her artwork in the Las Cruces Farmers and Crafts Market on Saturdays and the Mesilla Mercado on Thursdays.
